The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) became the first ever state association in India to have its own academy, when it was launched in November 2002. The primary motive behind launching an academy was to spot and develop talent at the grassroots level and take it forward. The academy was divided into 3 age groups U14, U16 and U19 in order to give as many chances as possible for kids. Another major initiative KSCA undertook was promoting cricket not just in Bangalore, but in the interior parts of the state as well. 6 new Moffusil/Zonal academies were launched namely Dharwad, Mangaluru, Mysuru, Raichuru, Shivamogga, Tumakuru other than the Bangalore academy. Each academy consists of a minimum of 4 districts and maximum of 7 districts to cover the whole state. Out of these 6 academies, Mysuru, Shivamogga and Dharwad have their own stadiums developed for academy cricketers, while other Moffusils which have rented grounds will soon have their own grounds.
